In the spring of 2013 I joined the workshop of master bowmaker Donald M.Cohen of Alexandria, VA as a bowmaking apprentice.I assisted in the repair, restoration, and making of violin, viola, cello, and bass bows.
Until its closure in 2017 the workshop was one of my happy places. Being able to work on bows that are sometimes more than a hundred years old, and still in use every single day, is simply wonderful. Don is now solely concentrating on bow making. He will still take on customer work on a very limited, per appointment only, basis. He makes an exception for my studio students who are very lucky and can get their bows serviced by one of the greatest contemporary bowmakers. |
